do not regret...

So, in case you haven’t heard, the health care reform bill was passed last night; but of course there had to be drama. Because the bill was passed the first time with no hassle, the republicans decided to pull some nonsense out their asses and got the chance to have another recorded vote…but they still lost. So, the bill was passed and you’d think everyone would be happy…but of course AMERICANS are never satisfied. People have the nerve to actually be upset about this bill. One of their main concerns is that it will raise their taxes…but how are other people’s lives not worth a tax increase? Is that what America has become? A place where taxes go to everything BUT those who need it? People seem to forget instances of uninsured people dying on hospital steps because they were refused to be helped based on their lack of health care. Have Americans become so greedy that they’re willing to have people die just so their taxes aren’t raised? Maybe I’m just a kid who wants certain opportunities that save lives to be equal. Maybe I’m just a dreamer. But I personally think this bill will help bring America to a place a needs to be. But sadly, a lot of people were very upset about this bill being passed. There were even people that posted comments on the White House facebook page about regretting voting for President Obama. Reading those comments hurt. Why do they regret voting for him? For a lot of us users on facebook, last November was our first time voting and we were prideful in the result. So to see these kids take back their at first ___ feelings is sad. Why is it that people expect the President to just fix things? Did they forget WHY he had to fix shit in the first place? We had a dumbass of a president that put us in this financial situation. Of course the bill would be better if it weren’t happening during a recession, but are we supposed to let people die while we try to get out of this 7mile deep hole that dumb ass Bush put us in? No. And what’s even worse is that we have people that inspire us turning to the other side because they aren’t seeing this miracle changes they were expecting.

Last week I attended MCPB’s TUDefPoets and was honored to hear Miss Nikki Giovanni speak. Although most of what she said touched me, her comments on Obama hurt. People seem to expect Obama to be the super hero that’s just going to save the day…they think that we’ll get out of this recession after one year of having a new president. But what really hurt about her comments was that she chose to say them to a room full of kids who were prideful that they’d put the first black man in the white house. Hearing things like this from people that have a influence on people’s lives is a sad thing to see. Shit like that is what makes people in our age range not even want to vote anymore. Barack Obama is not Jesus; he’s a black man that is now in the white house. He’s doing what he can to make this country a better place. If that involves people to do their part and pay more taxes, I’m ok with that.

I know I may sound like every other pro Obama person, but this bill is bigger than Obama. It’s bigger than democratic parties. It’s about supporting the people that built and help run this country. Those “small” jobs do big things…they are why this country is able to run. But their workers can’t get health care? WACK. Call me crazy, but at the end of the day, I would hope no one I know regrets putting Barack in office. Be proud that you’re helping make a change. Give him time. How dare people get pissed at Obama after one year but elected George Bush BACK into office after he had already fucked shit up. Stop jumping down Obama’s back after only a year of Presidency. Do not regret. Trust your instinct that told you to vote and just be patient. You really think the first Black president is gonna fuck shit up???

***I didn’t think about the fact that not everyone will get what this bill means. Basically, no one is guaranteed health care [kudos to Angel for pointing this out], but it is more available and cheaper for those that don’t have jobs with insurance policies or any other circumstance of why they don’t have insurance.***

change.
